Jack Miller will make the move to the FIM Superbike World Championship next season after signing with Yamaha’s official WorldSBK team for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The 31-year-old Australian brings considerable Grand Prix experience to Yamaha’s WorldSBK project following 15 years of racing at the highest level, including 12 seasons in MotoGP. During his time in the premier class, Miller claimed four MotoGP victories and 23 podium finishes, with his best championship result coming in 2021 when he finished fourth overall.
Miller has spent his final two MotoGP seasons racing with the Prima Pramac Yamaha team and has played an important role in Yamaha’s development programme for its new V4 MotoGP machine. His experience and technical feedback have proved particularly valuable during what has been a major period of change for Yamaha’s Grand Prix project.
The move to WorldSBK won’t mark Miller’s first experience aboard Yamaha’s R1 either. He has twice represented the Yamaha Factory Racing team at the famous Suzuka 8 Hours, where he raced alongside his future WorldSBK teammate Andrea Locatelli and Yamaha veteran Katsuyuki Nakasuga. The trio finished second in each of the past two editions of the prestigious Japanese endurance race.
“I am really excited to announce that I’m heading over to WorldSBK together with Yamaha, extending our partnership,” said Miller. “I have really enjoyed working with the brand these past few years in MotoGP and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to see what we can do on the R1. I have had a small taste of the bike at Suzuka the last couple of years and, while the WorldSBK-spec bike is a bit different, I am really looking forward to this next chapter in my career.”
Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing Sporting Manager Niccolò Canepa believes Miller’s experience will be a significant addition to the project, particularly as the team continues development of the R1.
“The opportunity to bring a rider of his experience and talent into our official team was too good to miss, and we are already looking forward to the first tests,” said Canepa. “His Grand Prix experience, particularly his knowledge of Michelin tyres, will be extremely valuable for us. He has already achieved strong results with the R1 at Suzuka, so we are excited to see what he can do on the WorldSBK-spec bike.”
Miller will line up alongside Andrea Locatelli when the 2027 WorldSBK season gets underway, beginning a significant new chapter in the popular Australian’s racing career and extending his relationship with Yamaha beyond MotoGP.
