For over a decade, Yamaha and iconic custom motorcycle, surfing and apparel brand Deus Ex Machina have collaborated on a range of projects. The latest saw Deus take on a custom build of the Yamaha XSR900 for the third edition of the Deus Swank Rally on Ice. The Deus Swank Rally on Ice is known for bringing together custom bikes, lifestyle culture and adventure, where style and creativity matter more than outright competition. Set in the stunning surroundings of Andorra, it provided the perfect backdrop for the continuation of the long-standing partnership between Yamaha and Deus Ex Machina.

Drawing inspiration from the Yamaha YZ125 and YZ250 models of the 1990s, the XSR900 build combines a white and shocking pink colour scheme to create a machine with a retro feel and a sharp, aggressive edge. A number of handcrafted elements make it completely unique, while an Akrapovič exhaust adds both performance and presence, ensuring it stands out wherever it goes.

Alongside the custom XSR900, guests at the event also had the opportunity to experience the all-new Yamaha WR125R. A scaled-down version of the Deus Swank Rally was introduced as part of the programme, highlighting the playful and capable nature of Yamaha’s latest adventure machine.

Andorra, 14th March 2026

At 7:30 in the morning, a snowstorm is shaping the peaks surrounding the circuit, creating ideal conditions for racing on ice. In the parking area, despite the cold wind, coffee is being served from the boot of a vintage car. Riders from Spain, France, Belgium and Italy arrive with a mix of classic and custom-built motorcycles. There is a clear sense of anticipation as they look out over the perfectly prepared white track.

When riding on ice in March, there are only two windows that offer proper grip, early morning and evening, when the surface remains firm. From 8:00 to 11:00, riders take to the track for free laps. It is a chance to get comfortable with the slippery conditions and build confidence before the competitive sessions begin.

In the pit lane, alongside the vintage machines, three brand new 2026 Yamaha WR125R bikes are available for anyone to try. The focus is simple, enjoy the experience. Many riders take the opportunity to test the versatility of these lightweight and approachable machines. Among the participants are special guests Ahikar Azcona and Pol Tarrés. Azcona looks as comfortable on a bike as he does in front of a camera, while Tarrés moves between his vintage XT600Z Ténéré and the WR125R with ease.

During the lunch break, a scaled-down version of the rally takes place, with all riders using the WR125R. It creates a level playing field and adds a light-hearted competitive element to the day. Unsurprisingly, Pol Tarrés sets the fastest time. The event also showcases Yamaha’s wider range beyond motorcycles. The snow circuit provides the ideal setting for its four-wheel machines, with the Wolverine RMAX2 1000 delivering plenty of entertainment and demonstrating another side of the brand’s capabilities.

By early evening, the atmosphere begins to shift. As the temperature drops, the focus turns to the official self-timed session of the Deus Swank Rally on Ice. For some riders, it is a personal challenge. For others, it is about beating a friend. For a few, the result is secondary to simply being part of the experience. Despite strong efforts from several determined participants, Pol Tarrés and his XT600Z once again set the fastest time. In truth, the results are not the main focus. The spirit of the event is about enjoying the moment.

As the cold sets in, everyone makes their way back to the chalet at the heart of the circuit. The engines fall silent, but the atmosphere continues. The night is still young, and the celebration is just getting started.
