Marc Marquez strengthened his position at the top of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship with victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang, leading home Pedro Acosta and younger brother Alex Marquez in a race that also saw Ducati move ahead of Aprilia in the manufacturers’ standings. The Spaniard established a commanding advantage during the race, leaving his rivals to battle over the remaining podium positions. While Alex Marquez initially attempted to challenge his brother, he was eventually forced to settle for third, with Acosta producing another impressive performance aboard the KTM RC16 to secure second place.

Acosta spent much of the race tucked behind Alex Marquez before finally finding a way through after ten laps. By that stage, Marc had already established a lead of approximately 1.7 seconds, leaving the KTM rider with too much ground to recover. Nevertheless, second place represented another strong result for Acosta, who continues to extract impressive performance from the RC16. Behind the leading trio, Ai Ogura emerged as Aprilia’s strongest finisher, overtaking Marco Bezzecchi with three laps remaining before attempting to close the gap to the final podium position. Bezzecchi subsequently made an error on the final lap, allowing Enea Bastianini to move ahead and secure fifth place for Tech3 KTM.

Luca Marini finished seventh aboard his Honda, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio, Brad Binder and Franco Morbidelli, while Francesco Bagnaia endured a disappointing afternoon, crossing the line in 13th position. The result has significant implications for the championship battle, with Marquez extending his advantage at the top of the riders’ standings to 44 points over Jorge Martin. Bezzecchi remains third, 67 points behind the championship leader. Ducati’s move ahead of Aprilia in the manufacturers’ championship adds further pressure to the Italian manufacturer as the 2026 season approaches its conclusion.
