Menupages wins two awards. In one night!
Thursday 22 November was a busy night for interactive dining guide Menupages.ie.
Not only did the website garner a coveted Golden Spider for Best New Indigenous
Website in 2007, but it also walked away with the inaugural BalconyTV Internet Award,
capping an immensely successful year for the venture. Menupages was chosen from
a shortlist of five "funky, cool Irish-based websites" by the phenomenally popular
Dublin-terrace-based blog, as well as scooping a gong at the venerable Eircom Golden
Spider Awards, which celebrate Irish Internet excellence.
It's been a hectic year for Menupages. Launched in December 2006 as Dublin's most
comprehensive online dining guide, with over 15,000 registered users a month and
boasting contact details, full menus and reviews for over 1,113 restaurants in the
capital alone, the hugely successful site's coverage was recently extended to Wicklow,
Kildare, Wexford, Cork, Galway and Limerick. The website uniquely offers users the
opportunity to post their own restaurant reviews, a feature that encapsulates the
"fun and innovation" stressed by BalconyTV when it announced its search for the
best Irish website.
Menupages is the brainchild of publishing veteran Ray Egan, owner of Page7Media,
which publishes 13 leading magazines and 6 popular websites, including the recently
launched InDublin.ie. Commenting on the website's recent accolades, Ray said, "To
go from launch in December 2006 to 150,000 visitors a month is a spectacular achievement,
and I'm delighted that this has been recognised with these awards. Arguably, Menupages.ie
has been the most successful Irish website of 2007."
