Styling And Design
|
Clearly reminiscent of its big brothers design. Off-road upper half meets supermoto bottom end. It lacks the same front end feel associated with the larger 1200, though does feel more compact and well finished with its smaller design. Around the edges it is slightly tacky, though being the cheapest of BMW’s entire motorcycle range, this can be expected. Slight refinements have been made to the 2007 model, with a revised mudguard, fairing trim and pannier rack. A “Dakar” model is also available for an additional €500, offering a tasty paint job. In our opinion worth the extra splash of cash. |

Performance
|
Powered by a lively single cylinder motor, the F650GS is responsive and fun to ride though low gears. Torque delivery bangs in at 3000RPM, and will contently sing towards 7000RPM. The Gearbox is short but smooth, and is quite fun in first gear off the mark. Where the larger 1200 is weighed down and bulky, the 650 is light and compact. Its 0-100kph time of 7 seconds is considerably slower than rivals, though this bike wasnt built for outright performance. Also notable is that the F650 is one of a very few chain driven BMW’s. |

Ride And Handling |
An excellent street bike and country roamer for the beginning to advanced rider. Far more flickable and user friendly than the R1200GS. Ride height is lower, thanks to 41 mm telescopic front forks and a pre-load ready rear shock. Give it the beans and it’ll still stay in perfect shape, thus proving its clear user-friendly aim. Knobbly rubber comes in handy in winter riding, especially negotiating potholes and back-road gravel. |

Comfort |
Riding position, handlebar position and peg position are excellent, offering adequate comfort for daily commuting or even the odd weekend blast. Standard seat height of 780mm will suit riders sized small to tall. Pillion saddle area is slippy, though standard fitment of handrails will have this problem sorted in no time. |
