Run in Aid of Midlands Simon Community

Midlands Simon Community and Team Dakar Ireland are calling on bikers everywhere to help raise some much needed funds by taking part in a rally through the Midlands on Saturday October 10th. The Midlands Rally will set off from Granard, Co. Longford, at 9.30am and wind its way through the Midland Counties, finishing up in Portlaoise later in the day to a party in the plaza! A fun day out is guaranteed for all who come along. Team Dakar Ireland will be asking all bikers who take part in the rally to donate €20 to Midlands Simon Community on the day or to take a sponsorship card. Leading the rally will be the Team Dakar Ireland bike, and rider, Philip Noone. Philip and Team Dakar Ireland will fly the Irish flag at the Dakar Rally, which takes place in Argentina and Chile next year. From the 3rd to the 17th of January next, teams from all over the world will endeavour to complete the gruelling 10,000 km Dakar Rally, which travels through varied terrain including mountains and deserts from Buenos Aires to Santiago and back. Last year’s rally was watched by over 2.2 billion spectators on TV, and by over 3.5 million spectators along the various stages and routes. “Team Dakar Ireland” is a team made entirely of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to taking on the challenge of finishing in the top 80, and to raise as much money for charity as possible in the process. Gary O`Keeffe, Team Dakar Ireland manager said “Our rally through the Midlands will be a fantastic opportunity for bikers or anyone with an interest in bikes to see the bike which will represent Ireland early next year and at the same time help us to raise as much money for Midlands Simon as possible”. You can join the Rally Round the Midlands by meeting up either at the start in Granard or anywhere along the way. Alternatively, you can come to the Party in the Plaza in Portlaoise at the end of the Rally. Free music and entertainment and fun will be provided. It will be great day out and also make a big difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. To register to take part in the rally, for sponsorship cards or more information you can contact Cormac Lally on 087 9925083, 060 6444641 or e-mail c.lally@midlandssimon.com
