Styling And Design
Score:8/10
In 2006, the RS underwent a huge style revamp, and needless to say, the result was one of the best looking 125s on the market! With its Marchesini-like wheels, USD forks, Brembo brakes and sharper exhaust; the RS is one trick 125. Tailpiece is sharp and clearly taken from the Aprilia RSV’s stylebook, whilst headlights, fairing and tank design also traipse that route. Last year's colour choice has been ditched for a black and red colour scheme, with tasty gold flame graphics. Yamaha's YZF-R125 has overtaken it as best looking 125 on the market though...
Performance
Score:5/10
Despite drastic physical modifications in 2006, the same RS motor we all know and love remains intact beneath its aluminum frame. Making 31bhp @ 11,000RPM, the RS contains the power of two Honda CBR125R’s, though will also cost you twice as much on the insurance front when you go quote hunting! It does at first feel a little dead, though you’ll have to pick it up and bring it into 8000RPM+ territory before it screams into life! Keep it singing and you’ll be winning.
Ride And Handling
Score:7/10
The RS' ability to be thrown around, slid and flung into corners is outstanding, but can take getting used to for riders who have previously ridden larger capacity machines. Dunlop D207 rubber provides great grip for track riding, and will last the test of time too. The RS125's chassis has essentially remained the same since the late 90s, with a complacent dry weight of 126 kg.
Comfort
Score:6/10
Uniquely, the RS will cater well to all shapes of rider, be they large or small. Bars are well spaced, and can be easily adjusted to suit your style, though the pegs unfortunately cant. Its small yet significant fairing will deflect most oncoming wind, though you’ll have to climb forward to do so. Mirrors are well placed, but remain fixed and can't be adjusted. Its skinny feel can take time to get used to, though once familiarised you will reveal at how easy the RS can slice through traffic.

+ Good

Exotic style, fastest 125 on the market, race-based frame

- Bad

A tad expensive, limited production numbers, high insurance grouping

= Summary =

The RS125 is the only bike in its class that offers superbike looks, mixed with an insurance friendly engine. The appeal of this sporty Italian race bike lies in its lightweight nature and dynamic style. In summary, a no-nonsense two-stroke which has more style than you can shake a stick at!
